What are we?

We are BadmintonStrength, the new way of strength training for badminton players. An online platform where we offer quality strength training specific for badminton players. All in an easy to follow app which means you can perform the training at your own time whenever you want. We offer 3 different programs; Strength, Speed & durability. All made and put together by our team of experts. Our programs consist of 4 phases each lasting 6 weeks where we offer 2 strength sessions a week and depending on your program also an additional mobility or speed session. This means an entire program lasts 6 months in this way we can ensure a proper build up and guide you through your way of physical training for badminton. And the end of that sentence is something we emphasise on, for badminton! We are performing strength training to become better at strength training. We are using strength training to become better at badminton and improve your physical fitness and health. Strength training is the tool and not the goal, because above everything else we are badminton players!

Our mission

Our mission is to help people get fit and enjoy badminton to the fullest. Badminton is physically demanding, and injuries are common. Strength training is a key tool to prevent injuries and improve performance. While professional athletes rely on experts, we’re here to support you with the knowledge and guidance you need to become stronger and more resilient.

Origin story

Where did BadmintonStrength start from? The first ideas of BadmintonStrength go back to 2022, after Wessel had to stop his playing career due to injury he had to think what he wanted to do next. The first ideas of offering strength training online for badminton specifically started to come to his mind due to a lack of expertise for badminton being available online compared to other sports. But at this moment in time he was still finding his way and saw potential in the idea but wasn’t ready to commit to it yet. But after staying on the sidelines for longer and longer and struggling even more with his hips He started to become aware of how much he was missing to play the game he loved. And this is a feeling he wishes upon no one and actually this feeling ignited the fire to go all in for BadmintonStrength. Because with trying to pursue this business his job can revolve around helping others and trying to prevent them from experiencing the pain he feels. When he realised this he was all in and was ready to take the risk. So after that it was time to invest many hours, hard work and money trying to get BadmintonStrength off the ground and here we are now. An existing company that is chasing the dream of helping others be as fit as they possibly can!

Our team

We can not be more grateful for the team of experts we got to work with when putting our programs together. To ensure you get the best program we can offer it was important for us to work with a diverse team of experts who all brought their own expertise to the table. With this we could make sure we were taking into account all the different aspects there are when putting together a great program designed for badminton. From physiotherapist to strength trainers to national head coaches to personal trainers to even an ex-national team member from the Dutch track and field team for our speed sessions.

Lindy Dukers

Physiotherapist

Lindy Dukers is a physiotherapist who works with the Dutch national badminton team. This means she knows like no other physiotherapist what it takes for a body to stay fit when enduring many physically demanding training sessions. And exactly where the body is vulnerable when exposed to these sessions. This helped us a lot when designing our programs and especially gave an extra dimension to our durability program. Targeting the right areas of the body in the right way. Next to this she is also an expert in the hip and shoulder joint. Two joints that are also at  higher risk of injury within our sport. So with this she also helped us with how to train these joints in the right way!

Henri Vervoort

Badminton coach

Henri Vervoort is a badminton coach with a lot of experience. He has been a coach for 18 years already, having been the national head coach of the juniors of Italy, the Netherlands and now the national head coach of the Dutch seniors. And also having the highest European degree when it comes to coaching, having reached this with research on how to improve training quality with using your phone to film yourself. We can say he has been in the game for quite a while now. And that is also what makes him very valuable to our programs. Having been around for so long already comes with a lot of experience. Experience he shared with us which we used to improve the quality of our programs. So you yourself can directly profit from all the experience Henri has gained throughout the years.

Kirsten Hillebrand

Physiotherapist

Kirsten Hillebrand is a physiotherapist with a passion for sports performance and rehabilitation back to play. Because of her passion for rehabilitation back to play she really has an eye for detail when it comes to load management and the increase of the load. Because of this she was a great value for the build up of our programs and ensuring we maintain a steady increase of load without overasking your body too soon. Combine this with her broad knowledge of rehabilitation exercises she added some great value to all our programs!

Antonio van Engelen

Strength & Conditioning coach

Antonio van Engelen is an Strength&Conditioning coach who works for TeamNL. He has a masters degree in Sport and movementent innovation and is also a certified Australian strength and conditioning coach level 2. Next to this he also has some experience as a personal trainer. This combination of degrees and experience made him a valuable asset in putting together the non badminton specific part of our strength training. How to properly build up the training session, the build up of the program and the non-negotiables for proper S&C. This helped us in making sure your program exists of quality strength training that has been used with professional athletes proving to give results.

Sophie Brown

Ex professional badminton player

Sophie Brown is an ex professional badminton player with many years of coaching experience and is now a personal trainer focused on women helping them get fit and changing their lifestyle. Her years of hands- on experience working with many clients helped us with making the programs adjustable to every level regardless of your level. We did this by offering many alternatives for almost all the exercises so you can adjust it to your own level. Sophie played a crucial part in this, giving us feedback in making sure that every exercise has a doable option for beginners as well. So everybody can train at their own level and they don’t need to be scared of starting with strength training.

Eva Hovenkamp

Ex professional track & field athlete

Eva Hovenkamp is an ex-professional dutch track & field athlete who used to specialise in the 100,200 & 400 meters. She is now performance coach at Ajax football club. This background proved a great value to us in making our speed training. Something in the badmintonworld we are not as familiar with but offers great benefits we can not overlook. So we are really glad we could get the help of someone with a lot of experience in making but especially executing these trainings herself. In this way we could fill the gap in expertise we are missing ourselves in this field and still offer high quality training to you!
