Who is coach Wessel?

Coach Wessel used to be a professional player who loved to play badminton. From a young age he loved nothing more than being on the court and playing regardless of his level which wasn’t always the best. But after making some progress he got the chance to take badminton seriously and took it. Living with the national team for 5 years resulted in achievements such as a silver medal at the europeans u19 in mixed doubles and a silver medal at the european men’s team event. And meeting many new people around the world, making all kinds of different badminton friends and gaining a lot of experiences. During this time he was also struggling with injuries and at the end tried to do something about it with a hip surgery. Sadly this didn’t give him the result he wanted and it was time for him to stop. But despite this Wessel always enjoyed his time on and around the badminton court and stayed on as a coach helping others to improve their game. Wessel also improved his coaching skills, completing the BWF level 1+2 coaching course, as well as completing the Athletic skills model course learning even more about movement and the human body. Next to this he is also in his last year of his Sports degree where he learns everything surrounding sport; the business side behind it, lifestyle coaching, strength training, how to train a group and many other things. And with this background and experience he is using his past to help his players improve as much as they can.

Why did I start BadmintonStrength?

BadmintonStrength is an idea that originated from the fact that I wanted to help others with the knowledge I collected over my injury plagued career. Because these injuries maybe weren’t the best for me personally but it put me in a situation where I got to learn a lot about injuries and physical performance and what you can do to prevent and enhance these. Deep diving the internet searching for all the knowledge there is to find about this I learned that there is a lot to find on the internet about it. Only almost nothing badminton related. This I found to be a sad thing, because it meant if you want to gain expertise on strength training for badminton you had to go to national teams but it was not available for everyone. And with my background as a player, student and person I felt like the right person to try and bridge this gap. Maybe also because one of my strengths as a player was believing in myself and believing I could win. Now I continue on this path believing I can bring this business to a success and be successful in helping many others around the globe. So if you are still reading by now I hope you want to accept the challenge of improving your own physicality and give me the chance to help you with this with one of our programs!
